A sequel to Domino's tragic life

From the heartache that has engulfed her life, some unexpected happiness has emerged for Paulene Stone, the Sixties supermodel whose bounty-hunter daughter Domino died of an overdose while facing drug-selling charges.

Sad loss: Paulene Stone with her daughter Domino Harvey, who died three years ago

The death of Domino, whose father was actor Laurence Harvey, triggered a further catastrophe in Paulene's life after she fell out with her other daughter Sophie, who was by her first marriage to Take 6 fashion chain founder Tony Norris.

The rift happened because the son of Sophie's older husband, U.S. property developer Richard Butera, had shopped Domino as a drug dealer to the FBI. It meant Paulene was unable to see her only grandson, Miles, now aged four.

But now an unexpected upheaval in Sophie's life has reunited mother, daughter and grandson.

For Sophie and her husband have parted and, as a result, Chelsea-based Paulene has just returned from a holiday with her daughter and Miles in Aspen, Colorado.

The reunion draws a line under a tragedy that has seemed without end since the day Domino died in her Los Angeles cottage in 2005.

Domino's astonishing life as a bounty-hunter had already been turned into a £30 million movie starring Keira Knightley, though she died before the film came out.

Protesting her innocence over the impending drugs case, she had feared she might be jailed for 20 years. The revelation that Domino may have been set up by another extended family member ripped Paulene's world apart further.

Sophie's stepson, Thomas, turned in Domino after he himself was accused of drug charges. Lawyers have since pointed out the only evidence against Domino was the statement by Butera Jnr.

Domino was born in London in 1969 when her mother was at the height of her fame as a Vogue covergirl and her father was starring in films such as The Manchurian Candidate.

But Laurence Harvey died when Domino was four and Paulene went on to marry Hard Rock Cafe owner Peter Morton, her third husband, and actor Mark Burns, a former aide to Prince Philip, who died in 2007.

Why Christmas is for Friends

Friends star David Schwimmer's squeeze Zoe BuckmanFriends star David Schwimmer's squeeze Zoe Buckman

I'll be there for you: Friends star David Schwimmer's squeeze Zoe Buckman

Her family home is an unassuming terrace house amid the kebab shops and sari stores of the bustling London suburb of Stoke Newington.

He divides his time between a fabulous New York apartment and a colonial mansion in Los Angeles. So neighbours of striking brunette Zoe Buckman, 23, were understandably amazed when the waitress-turned-photographer arrived home for Christmas hand-in-hand with Hollywood actor David Schwimmer.

The 42-year-old Friends star met the Hackney-born beauty while directing the comedy film Run, Fat Boy, Run in London's East End in 2007. The two have become so close that she has moved to the U.S. to be nearer to him.

But his decision to join Zoe and her family for the holidays  -  sitting down to Christmas lunch with her twin Joshua and elder brother Michael, 26, mother Jennifer and stepfather Nicholas  -  has left friends suspecting the actor, who has been linked to a string of beauties, including singer Natalie Imbruglia, may be ready to settle down.

Zoe is diplomatic when I call. 'I'm sorry, but I can't say anything,' she says.

But Schwimmer's agent tells me the actor plans to spend much of this year in England, adding: 'He loves the English theatrical world and he's keen to do more here.' And that will surely mean more visits to Stoke Newington.

Cold comfort at Charles' pad

Invited to Clarence House for an Enterprise Fellowship meeting for the Prince's Trust with other entrepreneurs, plumbing tycoon Charlie Mullins found himself shivering because the vast dining room where they lunched was heated by a single electric radiator.

'We were all freezing,' says the boss of Pimlico Plumbers, whose clients include Sir Richard Branson and Bond star Daniel Craig. Told by an aide the boiler had broken down, Mullins, 51, pulled out his business card and said: 'I can have a plumber round in ten minutes.'

He tells me: 'The meeting went well, but we were all rather uncomfortable.'

Yet his offer to sort out the royal waterworks was politely declined. Says Mullins: 'They said Prince Charles, who wasn't there, is not a great lover of the heat because he doesn't think it's good for people.'

Sad farewell for Lady Jane

The death of poet Mick Imlah brings to an end an extraordinary and touching friendship.

Lady Jane WellesleyLady Jane Wellesley

Loyal friend: Lady Jane Wellesley

Lady Jane Wellesley helped care for Imlah, sharing the nursing duties with his partner Maren Meinhardt, the mother of his two children.

For Lady Jane, who might have become Princess of Wales, it was a remarkably loyal gesture as she and Imlah, 52, had once enjoyed a year-long relationship.

But although the romance fizzled out, the two remained close friends as he battled drink problems.

And later, when Imlah was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, the Duke of Wellington's spirited  -  and still unmarried  -  daughter took up the burden as nurse again, taking it in turns with Maren to look after the wheelchair-bound Scot and often bringing him to her Notting Hill home.

She was also a godmother to one of Imlah and Maren's children. Both women are expected to be at his funeral at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Imlah's death overshadowed Monday night's TS Eliot Prize ceremony, not least because he had been shortlisted for the £15,000 award.

Many guests were angry the judges, including Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, did not pick Imlah for the prestigious prize.

She is only 13 months old, but already Domino Flint Wood is living every girl's dream. For the baby daughter of Prince Charles's goddaughter India Hicks, 41  -  the Ralph Lauren muse who has three other children with her partner David Flint Wood  -  has stylish shoe designer Christian Louboutin among her godparents.

The cobbler joined Domino and her other godparents, who include Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, for the christening in Oxfordshire. 'We always have five,' India, granddaughter of Earl Mountbatten of Burma, tells a feelgood magazine. 'It's rather like Liquorice Allsorts in that you can have a wonderful mix.'

PS

Well-born friends of the royals remain puzzled by the furore over Prince Harry's way with words. Some say events organiser Mangal Kapoor might have been on the receiving end of some choice epithets from Prince Philip after barging in front of the Queen at a Guards Polo Club reception.

Mangal was running late after dropping off the dowager Lady Killearn  -  who was holding her 99th birthday party last night  -  when he noticed another late arrival, a woman in brown.

As the band struck up, he dashed in front of her mumbling: 'Sorry, but I don't want to get there after the Queen.'

At which the woman replied: 'There is no danger of that.'

Says society fixer Kapoor: 'To my horror, I then realised it was the Queen I had nearly pushed out of the way.

'Under the circumstances, Philip would have been justified in using an offensive remark to me. He didn't and the Queen just smiled.'
